New look outlet sees KFC put robots in charge
Could the days of staff management as the biggest headache for franchisees be coming to an end? KFC in Shanghai has opened the doors to its first fast-food restaurant manned by robots.
Unlike other KFC stores, the latest innovation at the fast food giant has been designed in a traditional Chinese garden style, complete with flowers, bamboo and jade tones.
The Original+ outlet has customers enter through a large circular doorway to be greeted by small robots who will take orders and process payments.
However, it doesn’t look as if fast-food employees need to be too worried about their jobs just yet. According to Business Insider India, artificial intelligence isn’t perfect: robots have already been fired from two Chinese restaurants for proving less reliable than human staff.
