The Ideal Play Abacus franchise ensures that the children are initially taught easy addition and subtraction on the Chinese tool, abacus. After this, the children are taught to do these arithmetic problems using larger numbers by the education and training franchise. Through constant practise by following a structured strategy on the abacus, the beads are memorised by the children, who begin to count mentally.

According to the memory programme franchise, the whole process is called visualization or imagery and is a right brain function. The Ideal Play Abacus franchise then teaches the children division, multiplication and decimals.
