The opportunity in India for Animaster
The global animation industry is estimated to reach $75 billion by 2009. In India, it is expected to grow by 35% & estimated to touch $950 million by 2009. Another area where animation has a lot of scope is the high-end gaming technology. This is a very huge market globally, requiring both software and animation (creative) skills.
Opportunity for India
According to NASSCOM, India needs to develop the requisite talent pool & focus on attracting high-quality work which means training per se itself is big business. The cross cultural appeal has played an important role for the success of locally developed content such as 3D animation shows, titled ‘Pandavas -The five warriors’ and ‘Sinbad-Beyond the veil of mists’ released in Cartoon Network. Indian animation industry is on the brink of breaking away from being service providers to producing original content not only for the local market but for the International market as well. As more and more Indian providers concentrate on international quality standards, they will find a significant global appetite for our content and our films too.
Future of Indian Animation
The Indian animation market is expected to reach USD 950 million in 2009 from the current USD 285 million, according to a NASSCOM report on Animation and Gaming Industry in India. According to the report, the Indian animation Industry is likely to produce more than 3 Lakhs professionals and clock a growth rate of 15% to 28% annually. Indian gaming industry is also expected to be around $300 million by 2009. NASSCOM has suggested that the animation production industry needs to interact with the training industry to arrive at industry oriented courses which could bridge the short supply of animators. It also talks about the need for professional training industries which has a lot of potential as a business by itself.
Strengths of Indian Animation
The strong language (English) skills of Indian developers are considered as a major reason for the inflow of projects from abroad. To capture the essence of humor and the entire set of emotions through animation, one requires a grasp of the language. Artists use the conventional drawing on paper route to do a major part of 2D animation. Therefore 2D animation requires skilled artists who are available in abundance in India. This is a very crucial factor, as good 2D animation skills are a prerequisite for 3D. The animation industry in India is very cost effective in terms of real sets, studio space and outdoor locations and is fast emerging as an important destination for outsourcing assignments from global studios such as Walt Disney Pictures and Cartoon Network. The Indian advertising industry has actually pioneered the use of animation in India. Advertisements are increasingly using animation to capture viewer’s imagination.
